Survivalist Band Branding

I was approached by Survivalist about creating them a nice piece of branding, to match their groovy deathcore style band, but wanted something to get away from the status quo, of unreadable, unattractive spiked messes that most bands of the genre used.
I went out of my way to try and create something with a touch of class, but had enough about it to be able to set itself apart from the crowd.

 

 I started out by trying to play off the name 'survivalist', by trying to include mountains and tree's to help with their identity, as I found it would be fitting. However, they didn't enjoy my initial ideas, but quite enjoyed the stylized serif texts and asked me to just use that, as a standalone text logo.
